January 5, 2010: The Vereinte Kirche Gottes
["UCG-Germany"] completes a website redesign with a fixed width
display and a background graphic for its Gute Nachrichten [German
"Good News"] website.
January 10, 2010: For the year 2009 the Vereinte
Kirche Gottes ["UCG-Germany"] distributed a total of 51,990
publications in the German language. The booklets requested
most often were "Nach dem Tode – was dann?" ["What
happens after death?], "Jesus Christus: Die wahre Geschichte"
["Jesus Christ: The true story"] and the reprint "Die
apokalyptischen Reiter" ["The four horsemen of the
apocalypse"].
January 15, 2010:
The January-February issue of the "Gute
Nachrichten" magazine is mailed to 6722 readers in 20
European countries. This is another new record high for
"Gute Nachrichten" circulation, representing a 1.6 percent
increase over the last issue and a 21.8 percent increase
over the January-February 2009 issue. The circulation goal
for 2010 is 7000 subscribers by the end of the year.
January 24, 2010: The Vereinte Kirche Gottes
["UCG-Germany"] completes work on its pianist's hymnal. The
hymnal for accompanyists has 65 transposed hymns, eliminating
or reducing sharps and flats in the key signature. The hymnal
will be used in church services conducted by the Vereinte
Kirche Gottes.
February 8, 2010:
The Vereinte Kirche Gottes ["UCG-Germany"]
reprints the booklet "Das Leben meistern" ["Making Life
Work"], making it the 12th German-language booklet to be
reprinted. Since January 2001, the Vereinte Kirche Gottes
has invested over $300,000 in printing costs for preaching
the true gospel in the German language.
February 20, 2010: At a church service today in
Maarn, the Netherlands, UCOG President Paul Kieffer
ordained Marcos Rosales as an elder in the United Church of
God-Holland. Read more »
March 2, 2010: Following a visit by UCOG
President Paul Kieffer with "Gute Nachrichten" readers in
Plauen in the former East Germany, the Vereinte Kirche Gottes
announces that the first church service in Zwickau, Germany
since 1995 will be held on March 30, 2010. Take a look at the

special service.
March 15, 2010:
The March-April issue of the "Gute
Nachrichten" magazine is mailed to 7047 readers in 20
European countries. This is another new record high for
"Gute Nachrichten" circulation, representing a 4.8 percent
increase over the last issue and a 18.9 percent increase
over the March-April 2009 issue. The circulation goal of
7000 subscribers by the end of the year has already been
achieved.
March 25, 2010: United Christian Outreach Germany
announces a special fundraiser to provide $1000 as festival
assistance for Mnazakan Poghossjan to attend this year's Feast
of Tabernacles in Schluchsee, Germany. Mr. Poghassjan is the
only member of the church in Armenia.
April 6, 2010: Statistics for the Passover and the
Feast of Unleavened Bread in the German-language region have
been finalized. 103 people met at five locations to keep the
Passover. On the first day of Unleavened Bread, 134 people
attended services in five locations: Dormagen (47), Moosdorf in
Austria (15), Schriesheim (24), Winterthur in Switzerland (36)
and Zwickau. The offering was 7593 €, which was 20.9% less
than last year's offering. On the last day of Unleavened Bread,
132 people attended services in five locations: Dormagen (40),
Hamburg (14), Munich (13), Schriesheim (25) and Winterthur in
Switzerland (40). The offering (6886 €) was 22.1% less
than in 2009.
April 13, 2010: Eight youth from Germany will attend
this year's summer camp hosted by the United Church of God in
the United Kingdom. The venue for the camp will be "The Peak
Centre" in Edale, Derbyshire, between July 30th and August 8th.
Campers will fly from Düsseldorf to Manchester and from
there by train to the Peak Centre.
April 20, 2010: The Vereinte Kirche Gottes
[UCG-Germany] announces its guest speaker for this year's Feast
of Tabernacles in Schluchsee, Germany: Mr. Gary Antion. Mr.
Antion is a long-time minister in God's church and currently
serves as an instructor at the Ambassador Bible Center in
Cincinnati, Ohio. He is known to members in the German-language
region from his feast visit in 2004. Mr. Antion is scheduled to
give two sermons and conduct a Bible study during the
feast.
April 27, 2010: United Christian Outreach Germany's
special fundraiser to provide $1000 as festival assistance for
Mnazakan Poghossjan to attend this year's Feast of Tabernacles
in Schluchsee, Germany has reached 30 percent of its goal.
May 1, 2010: The Vereinte Kirche Gottes [UCG-Germany]
offered a webcast of a church service for the first time today.
The webcast of today's church service in the Darmstadt
congregation was announced earlier this week to members.
UCOG President Paul Kieffer gave today's main sermon.
Members from three other congregations and a couple from South
Africa were online to hear the service.
May 7, 2010: The Vereinte Kirche Gottes [UCG-Germany]
has implemented an "exit survey" for "Gute Nachrichten"
subscribers who cancel their subscription. Readers are asked
about their reason for canceling. Suggested answers include
lack of time, no interest, disagreement with viewpoints, etc.
The survey will run for six months. The initial response rate
is over 50 percent.
May 14, 2010:
The May-June issue of the "Gute Nachrichten"
magazine is mailed to 7121 readers in 20 European
countries. This is another new record high for "Gute
Nachrichten" circulation, representing a one percent
increase over the last issue and a 16.6 percent increase
over the May-June 2009 issue. The circulation goal of 7000
subscribers by the end of the year has already been
achieved.
May 24, 2010: Statistics for the Feast of Pentecost
have been finalized. 170 people met in seven locations in the
German-language region: Berlin (7), Dormagen (62), Hamburg
(14), Munich (15), Schriesheim (30), Winterthur in Switzerland
(32) and Zwickau (10). The offering in the German-language
region was 10,894 €, a 7.3 percent increase over last
year's record offering. The offering for the 3 spring Holy Days
(Unleavened Bread, Pentecost) was 11.3 percent less than last
year.
June 1, 2010: United Christian Outreach Germany's
fundraiser to provide
$1000 for airfare and visa expenses for United Church of
God member Mnazakan Poghossjan to attend this year's Feast
of Tabernacles in Schluchsee, Germany is now fully funded.
Mr. Poghassjan speaks fluent German and is the only member
of the United Church of God in Armenia. He is currently
unemployed. Without additional financial assistance, he
would not be able to attend the Feast.
June 7, 2010: The German postal service will impose
VAT (value added tax) on its magazine and book mailing rates
effective July 1, 2010. Previously these services were exempt
from VAT, currently at 19 percent. At current subscription
levels, the VAT charge will result in additional mailing
expense of approximately 4000 € annually.
June 14, 2010: In November 2005 the Vereinte Kirche
Gottes [UCG-Germany] started its internet advertizing campaign
using Google and Yahoo keywords. Since then, 6157 new
subscribers have been added to the "Gute Nachrichten" mailing
list at a cost of 2 € per response. Since November 2005,
"impressions" (ads) for "Gute Nachrichten" were shown
91,331,616 times, bringing 373,148 extra visitors to the "Gute
Nachrichten" website. The Google campaign includes all
available German booklets and the Bible Study Course.
June 21, 2010: An official review of the Vereinte
Kirche Gottes ["UCG-Germany"] payroll accounting records for
the years 2005-2008 by the "Bundesversicherungsanstalt für
Angestellte", Germany's federal insurance agency for social
security payments, results in unqualified approval. The
required review takes place every four years. Although not a
full examination of all accounting records, a review resulting
in unqualified approval indicates that all salary and benefit
payments were made accurately, completely and in full
accordance with German law.
June 28, 2010: An accompanyment music CD in MP3
format with all 208 hymns in the new German hymnal has been
completed. The production of the CD was delayed until the 17
extra hymns in the German hymnal could be recorded. The new
hymnal CD will be distributed to all members in the
German-language area.
July 5, 2010:
The July-August issue of the "Gute
Nachrichten" magazine is mailed to 7174 readers in 20
European countries. This is another new record high for
"Gute Nachrichten" circulation, representing a one percent
increase over the last issue and a 14 percent increase
over the July-August 2009 issue. The circulation goal of
7000 subscribers by the end of the year has already been
achieved.
July 13, 2010: A promotional mailing for "Intern"
[German "United News"] brings a 19 percent response and
increases the circulation of "Intern" to 490 subscribers, about
8 percent of the "Gute Nachrichten" mailing list in Germany. 85
percent of "Intern" subscribers are currently not part of the
Vereinte Kirche Gottes ["UCG-Germany"]. The number of "Intern"
subscribers has increased by 16 percent since January.
July 20, 2010: The Vereinte Kirche Gottes
["UCG-Germany"] opens a second bank account in Switzerland. A
bank account denominated in euros was opened in 2006. A second
account denominated in Swiss franks will be used for new
deposits to protect against currency losses resulting from
exchange rate fluctuations.
July 30, 2010: For the third consecutive year,
teenagers from Germany and Switzerland travel to the United
Kingdom to participate in the summer camp hosted by the United
Church of God-British Isles. Because of a better flight
schedule, the eight youth will be able to stay for the entire
camp period, returning to Germany on August 8th.
August 4, 2010: UCOG President Paul Kieffer meets
with United Church of God-Italy National Council chairman
Carmelo Anastasi in Bergamo, Italy to discuss advertizing and
print circulation ideas. The focal point of the discussions is
the initiation of a virtual subscriber database for a weekly
email newsletter.
August 14, 2010: The Vereinte Kirche Gottes
["UCG-Germany"] implements a revised renewal program for its
"Gute Nachrichten" subscribers. Effective immediately,
subscribers who show interest by voluntarily communicating an
address change or ordering supplemental literature during their
initial subscription period will be renewed autormatically.
August 28, 2010:
The Vereinte Kirche Gottes ["UCG-Germany"]
prints the booklet "Das Buch der Offenbarung
verständlich erklärt" ["The Book of Revelation
Unveiled"], making it the 21st booklet to be printed.
UCOG contributed funds to help pay the cost of
printing the new booklet. In addition to these 21
booklets, the Vereinte Kirche Gottes has also published
the 12 lesson Bible Study Course in
German.
September 4, 2010: "Drei Linden Filmprodution", a
Berlin film studio specializing in documentaries on evolution,
requests permission to distribute Mario Seiglie's "Gute
Nachrichten" article Darwin's 10 mistakes in
German for film premiere of "Darwin's Dilemma" in Berlin on
September 11, 2010.
September 10, 2010: 134 people met at five locations
in the German-language region for church services yesterday on
the Feast of Trumpets. In Dormagen the attendance was 33 (this
year there was no combined service with UCG-Holland). 24 people
met in Schriesheim (near Heidelberg), and 43 were in attendance
in Winterthur, Switzerland. In Munich the attendance was 16. 13
people attended the afternoon service in Hamburg and 8 people
attended services in Zwickau.
September 15, 2010:
The September-October issue of the "Gute
Nachrichten" magazine is mailed to 7222 readers in 20
European countries. This is another new record high for
"Gute Nachrichten" circulation, representing a one percent
increase over the last issue and a 11 percent increase
over the September-October 2009 issue. The circulation
goal of 7000 subscribers by the end of the year has
already been achieved.
September 21, 2010:
The Vereinte Kirche Gottes ["UCG-Germany"]
publishes the seventh issue of its youth magazine
"Wegweiser" ["Signpost" or "Directional Sign"].
"Wegweiser" is produced quarterly by a team of team of
young adult volunteers who select articles from UCG
publications and translate them into German. They also
typeset "Wegweiser," which is distributed to youth in the
German-language region.
September 30, 2010: 223 people from 15 countries meet
in Schluchsee in the southern Black Forest to observe the
biblical Feast of Tabernacles. Read more »
October 5, 2010: The offering statistics for the
Feast of Tabernacles and Last Great Day in the German-language
region have been finalized. The offering on the first day of
the Feast of Tabernacles was 12,176 €, 5.6 percent
less than last year. The offering (13,262 €) on the
Last Great Day was 8.0 percent higher in comparison to 2009.
The total offering on the seven annual Holy Days in 2010 was
0.9 percent less than last year.
October 12, 2010: UCG-Germany releases a
code of ethics for speakers
assigned to speak at UCG-Germany church functions (worship
services, youth Bible studies, etc.). The UCG-Germany
National Council and Elders Assembly approved the new code
of ethics, which will also apply for speakers assgned to
speak at UCG-Holland church functions.
October 19, 2010: For the first time, this month's
issue of "Intern" [German "United News"] is sent to more than
500 subscribers. Currently 501 people receive "Intern", about 8
percent of the "Gute Nachrichten" mailing list. 85 percent of
"Intern" subscribers are currently not part of the Vereinte
Kirche Gottes ["UCG-Germany"].
November 8, 2010:
The November-December issue of the "Gute
Nachrichten" magazine is mailed to 7418 readers in 20
European countries. This is another new record high for
"Gute Nachrichten" circulation, representing a 2.7 percent
increase over the last issue and a 12.2 percent increase
over the November-December 2009 issue. The circulation
goal of 7000 subscribers by the end of the year has
already been achieved.
November 13, 2010: At its final meeting of the year,
the UCG-Germany National Council approved the 2011 budget of
223,000 €. Income is projected to be
185,000 €, with the deficit being paid from cash
reserves. The budget includes projected expenses to increase
circulation of the "Gute Nachrichten" magazine to 8,000
subscribers, print two new booklets and reprint one booklet and
the first four lessons of the Bible Study Course.
November 23, 2010: Typesetting has been completed for
the new booklet "Gibt es wirklich den Teufel?" ["Is there
really a devil?"]. A team of six volunteer proofreaders will
now proofread the booklet, which is scheduled for printing in
the spring of 2011.
December 2, 2010: In November the Vereinte Kirche
Gottes [UCG-Germany] distributed more than 9000 pieces of
literature in one month, setting a new monthy record.
December 12, 2010: A new direct direct mail offer for
"Intern" [German "United News"] brings a 25% response rate.
"Gute Nachrichten" subscribers who have been on file for four
years are offered "Intern" in regular intervals.
December 18, 2010: Typesetting has been completed for
the new booklet "Hebt der Neue Bund Gottes Gesetz auf?" ["The
New Covenant: Does It Abolish God's Law?"]. A team of six
volunteer proofreaders will now proofread the booklet. Because
of cost considerations, the booklet will be published as a
study paper and made available online in PDF format.
December 27, 2010:
Editing has begun on lesson 1 of the German
Bible Study Course, "Ist die Bibel heute noch aktuell?"
["Is the Bible still relevant today?"]. The first four
lessons of the course have to be reprinted in the spring,
and lesson 1 was specially written to appeal to readers in
the German language region. Follow-up news items from the
UN Millennium summit and various statistics now have to be

December 31, 2010: The Vereinte Kirche Gottes
[UCG-Germany] spent $36,800 on printing costs for public
proclamation in 2010, bringing the total for the decade ending
in 2010 to $321,000. These printing costs were paid with local
funds without any subsidy for public proclamation from the
United Church of God in Cincinnati, Ohio.
