All in a day’s "work"

Filed under UCG-Germany

After my last post I couldn’t write another post about food or eating – at least not in the headline or this introduction.

bielefeld bible study When we have church services with one of our smaller groups, we often meet in someone’s home. The advantage is a family atmosphere during the service, which in a smaller group is often an interactive Bible study. Afterwards there is a chance to fellowship and have a meal together, like we did last Sabbath at our small Bielefeld group. (Bielefeld is about 70 miles southwest of Hannover on the A2 Autobahn.) We don’t meet in Bielefeld, though – we never have, even though that is what the congregation is called. This is one of the locations where I take the train to services. My morning this past Sabbath looked like this:

• 4:30 a.m. – alarm sounds, time to get out of bed;
• 5:40 a.m. – left my apartment for the Siegburg-Bonn train station;
• 6:14 a.m. – train from Siegburg-Bonn to Cologne-Deutz, change trains;
• 6:50 a.m. – train from Cologne-Deutz to Hamm, change trains;
• 8:16 a.m. – train from Hamm to Paderborn, change trains;
• 9:15 a.m. – train to Bad Pyrmont, arriving at 10:01 a.m.

From there it was about a 20 minute walk to the member’s home where we had our service, which began at 11:00 a.m. and ended about 1:15 p.m. After that, it was time to enjoy lunch. In the late afternoon I made the same trip in reverse to get back home by about 9:00 p.m. or so. All in a Sabbath day’s "work".
