Rejoicing then, now and in the future

For the ancient Israelites the Feast of Tabernacles was the most joyful festival. Everyone's needs were taken care of – the widows, poor, Levites and even sojourners. Nothing was left undone to make sure that everyone was able to rejoice before the Lord. (more…)

Our imperishable crown

It should not surprise us that the apostle Paul compared the life of a Christian to a race run by a trained athlete competing for a prize. Athletic contests were popular in ancient Greece, and the Corinthians knew exactly what he meant when he wrote: "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? . . . They do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown" (1 Corinthians 9:24-25). (more…)
