Teamwork as God's co-workers

Jesus told His disciples that they were His friends and He encouraged them to love one another (John 15:12-17). The apostle Paul saw himself and the other elders as co-workers of God (1 Corinthians 3:9; 2 Corinthians 6:1). But the apostle Paul also called those who helped him in his ministry as apostle "my fellow workers in Christ Jesus" (Romans 16:3) and his "fellow workers for the kingdom of God" (Colossians 4:11). Consequently, the entire Philippi congregation was among his co-workers, faithfully supporting his work in preaching the gospel.

God gives us a wonderful opportunity for teamwork in the work of God. Scripture also gives us important principles about how to work together. For example, we should be joined together "in the same mind and in the same judgment" and not allow differences to divide us (1 Corinthians 1:10-13). In addition, we should "live at peace with everyone" (Romans 12:18; NIV) and guard against being "proud" and "conceited" — attributes that are detrimental to a good team spirit (Romans 12:16; NIV).

If we follow in Jesus' footsteps and see each other as friends and learn to love each other, we will be able to make our contribution to effective teamwork for the cause of God — as God's "fellow workers the kingdom of God".

With these thoughts I wish everyone a rewarding Sabbath!
