It seems like a nearby kindergarten was having some problems with men emptying their bladders at the fence. Sounds like a job for some creative sign design.

Matthew Bates, Mary Ann Miller and I discovered an interesting homemade sign at a kindergarten fence about one mile from my apartment in Bonn. We were on our final tapering walk (3 miles) prior to running a marathon two days later. The kindergarten borders a popular walking path not far from the Sieg river, which empties into the Rhine. I guess enough men had emptied their bladders at this particular spot to cause a problem, either for curious little eyes or for the nearby foliage, which no longer exists on the other side of the fence! So someone designed a sign, based on the traffic signs common here in Germany. Those signs are intended to convey a clear message via a picture message, and this one surely did the job for us – in the sense that it made us stop and look. I guess if you were one of the guys whose actions had prompted the sign to be made in the first place, you would think twice about continuing to provide your bladder some relief at this particular spot.
