Tempelhof’s Last Day

Berlin’s historic Tempelhof airport closes tonight at midnight. The last two planes to leave the world’s first commercial airport will be a "raisin bomber" – an American transport plane from the Berlin airlift – and a Junkers JU-52. Both will take off simultaneously shortly before midnight. In a referendum held last April, an initiative to save Tempelhof airport failed to achieve the required level of support needed to pass.
