Church service in Zwickau

For the first time in 15 years the church of God conducted church services again in Zwickau, in eastern Germany.

Services in Zwickau
Hymns sung with UCG-Germany’s new hymnal.

Until 1995 church services were conducted regularly in Zwickau, first in the home of Heinz Pistorius, who was the first member of the church in East Germany. The small group met for years in his small apartment. After the wall came down in 1989 and the two Germanys were united a year later, services were able to be held in rented halls. Due to manpower problems arising from a controversy over a departure from biblical teachings, the last service held in Zwickau was in 1995. However, this year we again have enough people in the area for a service. Twelve people met today in Zwickau for services on the first day of unleavened bread, including five people attending a church of God service for the first time. Services were held at the “Waldhaus” restaurant in Ebersbrunn, just outside Zwickau. This was the restaurant where the small group used to eat lunch on the Holy Days when services were being conducted at the Pistorius’ home.
