Are we with Him until the end of the age?

After His resurrection Jesus told His disciples: "I am with you always, even to the end of the age" (Matthew 28:20).

It is a comforting thought to know that our high priest and elder brother has promised to be with us until the end of the age. That can mean either the end of our lives or the end of time allotted to man, whichever comes first.

Of course, we know that Jesus is not with us bodily like He was with His disciples. But He is with us nonetheless, via the holy spirit: "I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you" (John 14:16-18; emphasis added throughout).

Jesus has promised to be with us, via the holy spirit, until the end of the age. That is His will!

What about us? Will we be with Jesus until the end of the age?

The apostle Paul confirms that Christ is in us – with us – if that holy spirit is in us: "But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness" (Romans 8:9-10).

Paul also gives us the key for that spirit to remain with us: "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God" (Romans 8:14).

We have to be led or guided by that spirit. We have to allow God to show us the way, and we remain His sons as long as we follow that spirit. If we do that, we will be with Jesus until the end of the age.

With these thoughts I wish us all a rewarding Sabbath!
